When we lose control over our way of life, we lose control over everything that affects the future for ourselves and the ones we love.  “Preparedness” means different things to different people.  To some it means having some extra food and water, having a flashlight handy, gas in the tank and an extra package of toilet paper.  To those that understand what is likely to happen with an economic collapse, a natural or man-made disaster, or anything of major proportions that changes our ability to sustain ourselves, there is a completely different definition and viewpoint.  Hard times demand hard choices, and those that “get it” will most likely be the ones who will make things happen to get where they need to be to sustain themselves and not just survive but to thrive.

Being the owner and broker of Selkirk Mountain Real Estate, an independent real estate agency, gives me the ability to concentrate on each and every buyer’s specific needs, providing the necessary level of service and expertise to assist buyers in their quest for self-reliance and security for themselves and their families.  By remaining an independent agency, this flexibility gives me the freedom to be accountable to my buyers, not the mandates of franchise edicts, or production and income levels.

By relocating to an area with like-minded folks who believe in and appreciate the principles of our founding fathers and that we are still “One Nation under God”, your desire to locally rekindle the American spirit will be welcome in this special community with those of us with a passion for our independence and lifestyle.

Deciding what to do and where to go can be daunting and overwhelming, so think about the adage, “To eat an elephant, it takes one bite at a time.”   So, where does one start?  My suggestion is to make a plan.  First on the list should be to decide just where you need to be that meets the requirements of your plan for self-sufficiency and quality of life.  That will take some due diligence and research and if you can, a trip to the area that is of interest to you.  We have
links here that will help you learn about both Boundary and Bonner Counties, which will provide information on important aspects such as climate, geography, county government, medical facilities, schools and home schooling, churches, etc.  Our “North Idaho” page will take you to specific information about our two northern counties.  The internet is a wonderful resource and should be used extensively to help you in gathering information to make knowledgeable and informed decisions.  Links are provided here as well for additional preparedness information.   Don’t spend your time worrying about what others may think of your choices, but rather invest your time in your future plans and commitments.

If you have decided that Boundary or Bonner County is to be your next home, then it’s time to start looking for a home or vacant land on which to build.  You can start by utilizing our website's “Property Search” page which provides you access to every active MLS (Multiple Listing Service) listing in both Boundary and Bonner Counties and a hassle-free means to look for properties that meet your requirements. I specialize in Buyer Representation and strive to help my clients locate just the right property to fulfill their needs.  Finding the right place to call home, especially now, will most likely be one of the most important decisions you will ever make. There are even differences between these two counties and as a Real Estate Broker having lived in both counties, I am very familiar with the pros and cons of both and share these with anyone who is interested.  For instance, between Bonner and Boundary Counties, Boundary County has a better growing season as it is surrounded by three mountain ranges and enjoys the advantages of a micro-climate.  It has two major rivers, the Kootenai and Moyie as well as many small lakes and creeks.  Boundary County has a little over 1271 square miles with a population of 10,808 people, making this community very rural in nature.  Bonners Ferry is the county seat with a population of 2,507.   Bonner County has approximately 1920 square miles with a population of 40,476 people. Sandpoint is the largest town and is the County Seat with a population of 7,354. Bonner County is home to beautiful Lake Pend Oreille, Priest Lake and Schweitzer Ski Resort.  Because of the larger population, Bonner County has more shopping and other amenities than Boundary County.

There is a good supply of homes in every price range and amenity in both counties.  I will not just show you our listings, but all properties in our MLS that may fit your parameters.  We want you to be aware of all properties that fit your needs, not just ours, and that is why all listings in the MLS for both Boundary and Bonner Counties are searchable on our website.  If you find a listing of interest to you, please email me at: donna@SelkirkMountainRealEstate.com  or call me at (208) 267-7900.  I will be happy to supply you with as much information about listings that are of interest to you as possible and I can also set you up for automatic notification of new listings as they hit the market.  We can also supply you with a list of references for builders, suppliers, contractors, lenders, experts in off-grid systems, etc. if needed.  If you are interested in exploring alternative financing such as a 1031 exchange or using your IRA or 401K to purchase real estate, we can assist you in that endeavor as well; we have experienced and competent resources to guide you through this process which can be complex but rewarding.

I will also be glad to supply you with a complete relocation packet free of charge; for that I just need your snail mail address.  Please consider me your north Idaho connection and don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.

Just imagine the peace of mind you can have by being able to provide for your family with an abundance of wildlife, fish, and land to grow your own food, in a community with conservative values and principles.  North Idaho is a special place for special people and it would be my pleasure to introduce you to our part of the world.
